I’ve heard that earning an instrument rating is one of the more challenging parts of pilot training. For pilots who’ve completed it, what did you find most difficult—radio communication, navigation, procedures, or something else? Any advice for someone preparing to start IFR training?

Jumping in on this older post—one of the trickiest things was learning to manage all the instruments while maintaining situational awareness. There’s a lot to keep track of! Have you found any specific exercises or techniques especially helpful during practice?

I’ve found one of the toughest parts is mastering the procedures and maintaining situational awareness. But once I started focusing more on my commercial pilot training, particularly with American Flyers, things started to click. Their approach really helped me get comfortable with the more advanced techniques. Plus, being able to use my own aircraft made a huge difference in building confidence and skills.
